Being pregnant is like no other experience for your body. You really have no baseline for what things should feel like. And even if you’ve been pregnant before, no pregnancy is exactly like another. So how are you supposed to know what’s normal and what’s not?
Red flags are things that should be immediately conveyed to your doctor. They could mean health concerns for you, baby or both. They include:
- Vaginal bleeding
- Gush of watery discharge from the vagina
- Abdominal cramping/contractions
- Decreased fetal movement
- Nausea and vomiting that prohibit intake or cause weight loss
- Increased pelvic pressure early in pregnancy
- Burning with urination
- Worsening anxiety or depression
- Any other symptoms that concern you
Your body will also go through a number of common changes and symptoms that can vary woman to woman. They include:
- Nausea and vomiting
- Fatigue
- Hemorrhoids
- Varicose veins
- Heartburn and indigestion
- Bleeding gums
- Swelling or fluid retention
- Skin changes
- Stretch marks
- Yeast infections
- Congested or bloody nose
- Constipation
- Backache
- Dizziness
- Headaches
While these symptoms are fairly normal, talk to your OB/GYN if they become severe. Together you can develop a plan to ease some of the symptoms and help you have a happy and healthy pregnancy.
