Are you nurturing your spirit during cancer treatment?

Are you spiritual? I am not talking about being religious. Wikipedia defines spirituality as; “Spirituality may refer to almost any kind of activity through which a person seeks meaning, especially a “search for the sacred.” It may also refer to personal growth, blissful experience, or an encounter with one’s own “inner dimension.”

Our being consists of body, mind and spirit. These interconnected systems work together to maintain health and wellness. When any one of these areas is stressed, an imbalance occurs affecting the other areas. We are all aware of the guidelines for physical and mental health (e.g., regular exercise, eating a balanced diet, and getting enough sleep).

What about your spirit? How do you nurture your spirit? There are many ways to strengthen and uplift your spirit. Spending regular quiet time alone, journaling, praying, walking in nature, coloring, giving and receiving hugs and mediation are just a few options. Recognizing and nurturing your spirit has the potential to give you peace, strength and resilience to face life’s challenges.
