Sanford World Clinic participates in Nobel Peace Prize Forum

MINNEAPOLIS — Members of the Sanford World Clinic team co-presented on their experiences delivering health care in Africa at the Nobel Peace Prize Forum at Augsburg University on Sept. 15. The forum is the only Nobel event held outside of Stockholm, Sweden, and Oslo, Norway.

Additionally, Sanford World Clinic experts participated in a panel titled “Healthcare and Peacebuilding in Africa: Charting a Path Forward.” They shared best practices in health care operations and development related to Sanford Health’s 20-clinic network in Ghana, Africa.

Senior Director of Clinical Services Ann Mays and Director of Operations Katie Jauert Jess represented Sanford World Clinic for the discussion. They were also joined by Barbara Bush, co-founder and CEO of Global Health Corps; Ray Yip, special adviser to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation; Amy Finnegan, an assistant professor at the University of St. Thomas and co-director of SocMed; and Sylvia Bartley, global director of Medtronic Philanthropy.

“We were proud and honored to have the opportunity to consider best practices and share our team’s work in Ghana with such esteemed panel members,” said Jim Slack, vice president of Sanford World Clinic.

The Sanford World Clinic initiative started in 2007 through the transformational gift from Denny Sanford. It was designed to provide permanent health care services for children and families. Additionally, each outpatient facility provides consulting, IV hydration, maternity care, wound care, health education, telemedicine, laboratory and pharmacy services. The clinics have brought health care services to more than 725,000 patients. Furthermore, Sanford Health’s place in the communities has created new opportunities for education, employment and hope.

Sanford World Clinic is always expanding its scope of services in order to meet the unique needs of the areas they serve. A few of the specializations developed to serve populations around the world are broader primary care services, regenerative medicine, specialized procedures, weight loss programs, diabetes research and clinic education
