For the second year in a row, U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals for 2022-2023 ranked Sanford Medical Center Fargo the No. 1 hospital in North Dakota and Sanford USD Medical Center the No. 1 hospital in South Dakota.
The annual U.S. News & World Report rankings are published to help patients decide where to receive care. U.S. News evaluates data on nearly 5,000 hospitals in 16 adult specialties, 9 adult procedures and conditions and 10 pediatric specialties.
Sanford USD Medical Center received high-performing rankings in three adult specialty areas, including gastroenterology and gastroenterology surgery, orthopedics, and pulmonology & lung surgery.
In gastroenterology and gastroenterology surgery, Sanford USD Medical Center ranks as one of the top in the nation when comparing those specialty services with health care systems across the country.

Sanford USD Medical Center is also rated high-performing in 15 procedures and conditions, including colon cancer surgery, heart failure, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, heart bypass surgery, heart attack, diabetes, kidney failure, prostate cancer surgery, lung cancer surgery, back surgery, hip replacement, knee replacement, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and pneumonia.
Sanford Medical Center Fargo ranked high-performing in urology and is rated high performing in 10 procedures and specialties, including colon cancer surgery, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, heart attack, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, colon cancer surgery, kidney failure, hip replacement, knee replacement and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
