SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Aug. 30, 2021 — Sanford Heart Hospital has received the American Heart Association’s Gold Get With The Guidelines® -Heart Failure Quality Achievement Award. This recognition shows a hospital’s commitment to managing heart failure in patients.

“It’s great that our hospital staff’s hard work is getting recognized, but that’s not why we come into work every day,” said Bridget O’Brien-Johnson, the executive director of the Sanford Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls. “The patients and the quality care that we’re able to provide is why we walk through our doors to ensure more people can experience longer, healthier lives.”

Each year, program participants apply for the award recognition by demonstrating how their organization has committed to providing quality care for heart failure patients to help them manage their heart failure once at home.

“We are pleased to recognize Sanford Heart Hospital for its commitment to heart failure care,” said Clyde W. Yancy, M.D., national chairperson of the American Heart Association heart failure systems of care advisory group and chief, division of cardiology at Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine. “Hospitals that follow Get With The Guidelines protocols often see fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates – a win for health care systems, families and communities.”

More than 6.5 million adults in the United States are living with heart failure, many can lead a full, enjoyable life when their condition is managed with healthy lifestyle changes or proper medications.

This award recognizes a hospital’s commitment to ensure heart failure patients receive the most appropriate treatment. The goal is speeding recovery and reducing hospital readmissions for heart failure patients.
