COVID-19 Q&A: Good Samaritan Society nursing leader

The Good Samaritan Society is thankful for its nursing staff.

That was one of many messages emphasized by Rochelle Rindels, vice president of nursing for the Good Samaritan Society, during a Facebook Live Q&A on April 23.

Rindels oversees a nearly 2,000-member workforce of nurses in skilled nursing facilities, home health, hospice, assisted living and private duty across the Good Samaritan Society’s 24-state footprint.

As of April 23, Good Samaritan Society had around 150 positive COVID-19 total cases among its staff and residents.

“Oftentimes it’s hard to be a nurse in a long-term care setting because you become so close with the resident, experiencing end of life. Right now, more than ever, with changing guidance and policy on a weekly basis, thank you for being flexible,” Rindels said as she addressed her workforce of caregivers.

Many of them are going above and beyond to make their residents feel safe and at ease, she said.

Rindels said the Good Samaritan Society is doing a number of things to take care of its employees. She defined PPE (personal protective equipment) such as face masks and supplies and talked about the quick response to cases in the facilities.
