Sanford USD Medical Center has been recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review on its list of 100 hospitals and health systems with great orthopedic programs.
Sanford USD Medical Center is joined on this list with health care systems such as Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins Hospital and Mayo Clinic.

Sanford USD Medical Center has the only orthopedic residency program in the region with orthopedic specialists in-house 24 hours a day. As the only Level 1 Trauma center in South Dakota, Sanford provides comprehensive care in orthopedics, sports medicine, regenerative medicine, and research.
Orthopedic hospital coming soon
In 2025, Sanford USD Medical Center will unveil the Sanford Orthopedic Hospital, a state-of-the-art facility that will provide clinicians with top-of-the-line surgical technologies, including an intraoperative MRI for real-time imaging during procedures.
The nine-story hospital will include 161,000 square feet of new space and 44,000 square feet of remodeled space. It will house 19 inpatient rooms, 12 operating rooms and 56 medical suites designed to serve as hotel-type rooms for patients and families, making a difference in patients’ healing process.

Additionally, those on this list treat a high volume of patients each year, offer access to various clinical trials and utilize the most innovative technologies available.
