Medical centers in Dakotas and Minnesota earn high marks in multiple health care services

Sanford Health hospitals earn Women’s Choice Awards

Five medical centers across the Sanford Health system have earned awards on the Women’s Choice Award 2025 Best Hospitals Award Report.

The Women’s Choice Award for Best Hospitals is a credential that identifies the nation’s best hospitals based on robust criteria that includes relevant clinical performance, patient satisfaction and appropriate accreditations, with a special focus on the female experience.

North Dakota hospitals

In North Dakota, Sanford Bismarck Medical Center has received several Women’s Choice Awards.

“Our dedicated team of caregivers is deeply committed to our patients’ well-being, ensuring not only the highest quality of care but also a comfortable and compassionate experience,” said Todd Schaffer, president and CEO of Sanford Health in Bismarck. “These awards are a reflection of the incredible dedication of our entire team, and we remain committed to advancing the health and well-being of the families across the region who depend on us every day.”

As part of the Women’s Choice Award 2025 Best Hospitals awards, Sanford Bismarck Medical Center was awarded in the following categories:

  • Best for Bariatric Surgery
  • Best for Patient Safety
  • Best for Heart Care
  • Best Comprehensive Breast Centers
  • Best Mammogram Imaging Center
  • Best for Women’s Services

Sanford Medical Center Fargo also has received several Women’s Choice Awards.

South Dakota hospitals

In Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Sanford USD Medical Center has received multiple Women’s Choice Awards.

Also in South Dakota, Sanford Aberdeen Medical Center has received the Best for Emergency Care and Best ER Wait Time & Efficacy awards on the Women’s Choice Award 2025 Best Hospitals Award Report.

The Emergency Timeliness award is given to emergency departments that outperform national average measures for time spent in the emergency department before leaving as well as the percentage of patients who left the emergency department before being seen.

“As one of the few Level IV trauma centers in northeast South Dakota, Sanford Aberdeen is committed and prepared 24/7 to care for patients in our emergency department,” said Kila Legrand, administrator of Sanford Aberdeen Medical Center. “From motor vehicle and farming accidents to sudden health problems, having emergency care available in a rural area like northeast South Dakota is essential.”

Minnesota hospitals

In Minnesota, Sanford Luverne Medical Center has received the Best ER Wait Time & Efficacy award on the Women’s Choice Award 2025 Best Hospitals Award Report.

“Patients from surrounding, rural areas rely on the timeliness of our emergency care team at Sanford Luverne,” said Tammy Loosbrock, administrator of Sanford Luverne Medical Center. “Having emergency care available in a rural area like southwest Minnesota is crucial in responding to vehicle accidents, farming accidents and sudden health problems. We are committed to being at the ready when patients need us in emergency situations.”
