Sanford Health hospitals earn top rankings in ND, SD

For the third consecutive year, Sanford USD Medical Center has been named the No. 1 hospital in South Dakota, and Sanford Medical Center Bismarck has been named the No. 1 hospital in North Dakota, according to Newsweek’s 2025 Best-in-State Hospital rankings.

The annual rankings, created by Newsweek and Statista Inc., are designed to help patients make informed health care choices. They evaluate hospitals using rigorous quality metrics, including data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the American Hospital Association Annual Survey, Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) patient experience surveys, and a Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) survey.

“This recognition highlights our commitment to providing exceptional care in the communities we serve,” said Dr. Todd Schaffer, president and CEO of Sanford Health Bismarck. “It reflects the dedication of our incredible staff, who work tirelessly to ensure every patient receives world-class care close to home.”

The honor further highlights Sanford’s leadership in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.

“At Sanford USD Medical Center, our focus has always been on offering cutting-edge care with compassion and excellence,” said Paul Hanson, president and CEO of Sanford Health Sioux Falls. “This achievement is a testament to our team’s expertise and the trust our patients place in us every day.”

Sanford is proud to be recognized as a health care leader in both states and remains dedicated to advancing care for its patients and communities.
