U.S. News & World Report 2026-27 rankings recognize hospitals for exceptional care

For the sixth consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals for 2026-2027 ranked Sanford USD Medical Center the No. 1 hospital in South Dakota.

Sanford Bismarck Medical Center was also ranked as the No. 1 hospital in North Dakota.

The annual U.S. News & World Report rankings are published to help patients decide where to receive care. U.S. News evaluates data on nearly 5,000 hospitals in 15 adult specialties and 21 adult procedures and conditions. This recognition reflects Sanford Health’s ongoing commitment to delivering exceptional patient care and achieving positive clinical outcomes across the region.

High-performing in multiple procedures and conditions

Sanford USD Medical Center received high-performing rankings in several procedures and conditions, including leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, colon cancer surgery, prostate cancer surgery, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, heart arrhythmia, pacemaker implantation, back surgery, hip replacement, knee replacement and pneumonia.

Sanford Bismarck Medical Center is nationally ranked in cancer care and received high-performing rankings in several procedures and conditions, including cardiology, heart and vascular surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, and pulmonology and lung surgery.
