Black Friday health tips

Take time to slow down and be mindful about what you are doing while you’re doing it.

Black Friday health tips

Black Friday is all about the excitement of the deals and the speed of shopping. However, the early hours and long day could take a toll. Make the ultimate shopping day a bit healthier with a few simple tips.

Sleep

Malls and stores open early and with Thanksgiving the day before, you might be lacking some serious sleep if you begin shopping at midnight. Set yourself up for success with a full night of sleep. If you are heading out early for the deals, plan ahead and go to sleep earlier than normal.

Food

If you have a long shopping list, stopping to eat might not be on the agenda. Pack healthy snacks such as nuts, a protein bar, a piece or fruit, etc., to tide you over.

If you are stopping to eat, the mall food court may be a tough place to find something nutritious. Look at all of the options and select wisely from the menu. While a greasy slice of pizza might sound appetizing, it may not be your best bet. Choose lean meats, vegetables and fruits when possible. You might have to order from multiple places at the food court, but you’ll have a tasty meal that will not only be nutritious, but filling and satisfying.

Hydration

Coffee or soda might seem like the logical choice to give you a caffeine boost, but water is going to be the best option. Stay hydrated and avoid the empty calories. Pack a reusable water bottle with you, so you can refill at water fountains throughout the day.

Exercise

You likely won’t be missing out on any extra steps on a big shopping day like Black Friday, but there are ways to sneak in extra steps without interfering with your shopping.

  • Park at the end of the parking lot for a longer walk into the stores.
  • If you can, skip the escalators or elevators in the stores and take the stairs.
  • If you’re only picking up a few items, choose a basket over a cart and burn more calories by carrying rather than pushing the weight.

Slow down

While Black Friday can be thrilling for some, it can be stressful for others. Take time to slow down and be mindful about what you are doing while you’re doing it.
