CMS gives 5 stars for safety at Sanford USD Medical Center

Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, received a 5-star rating by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. This national distinction recognizes Sanford Health’s quality measures and its continued effort in providing safe, quality health care to its patients.

“Safety and quality remain the core of the patient care we provide our patients every day,” said Paul Hanson, president of Sanford Health in Sioux Falls. “Health care is an important necessity in every community, and we challenge ourselves daily to ensure our patients are receiving the most advanced and safest health care they deserve. Quality health care is a mission we take pride in achieving at Sanford USD Medical Center.”

The CMS quality ratings condense a variety of measurables in key areas. The five measure groups that are scored for each participating hospital include:

  • Mortality
  • Safety of care
  • Readmission
  • Patient experience
  • Timely and effective care

Sanford USD Medical Center last week was named best hospital in South Dakota by U.S. News & World Report and was graded an ‘A’ safety grade by Leapfrog ratings earlier this year.

“We continue to focus our efforts on providing quality health care, close to home for patients in the communities we serve,” said Hanson. “These continued gradings and ratings reflect the hard work and care our employees continue to provide for our patients every day.”
