Raised in Aberdeen, South Dakota, he went to both college and medical school in the Rushmore state.
During his medical school rotations, he spent time at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls.
“I knew I always wanted to come back,” he said.
Caring for patients
Dr. Oliver says he chose orthopedic surgery because of the impact it has on a patient’s quality of life.
“Often they are highly motivated to get back to doing what they love and it is enjoyable to be a part of their journey,” said Dr. Oliver.
He says he’s excited to join a team that cares about patients as much as he does.
“I’m most looking forward to working with the Sanford Orthopedic group. They are down to earth people that work hard, look after each other, and want the best for their patients.”
And, the patients are what he loves most about his job.
“South Dakotans are down to earth, genuine people.
“My wife and I are both from South Dakota. All our immediate family members live here as well. We have lived in different cities, big and small, and no matter what, South Dakota is and always will be our home,” said Dr. Oliver.
Dr. Oliver says he takes pride in the trust and his patients forge.
“Treatment decisions are made from a shared decision-making process between the patient and physician. I use evidence-based medicine from scientific research to present the best and safest options to my patients.”
