The DSU Heritage Foundation unveiled the Sanford Sports Complex, a $7 million, all-weather soccer and softball facility, providing a community space for youth, high school, and collegiate sports teams to practice and compete in Dickinson, North Dakota.
The complex boasts five soccer fields, four softball fields, a concession stand, and ample parking.
The Sanford Sports Complex is a partnership among Dickinson State University, Dickinson Public Schools, and Dickinson Parks & Recreation. The Dickinson community currently has more than 850 youth soccer and softball athletes. The Dickinson High School softball team, the 2021 North Dakota Class A State Champions, will also utilize the Sanford Sports Complex for their games.
The name is pending approval. Dickinson State University has begun the process of name approval from the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education for the Sanford Sports Complex.
A community asset
“To improve the athletic experience for our student-athletes and enable the growth of youth sports in Dickinson, the Sanford Sports Complex is a great asset for our community. This will give us the ability to host conference championships and national tournaments on the softball field,” said Stephen Easton, president, Dickinson State University. “Our Blue Hawk softball team deserves the opportunity to play in a first-class facility, and local youth softball and soccer teams will have a safer place to practice and play. Inviting young student-athletes onto our campus will create awareness about what Dickinson State has to offer them in the future.”
“The DSU Heritage Foundation looks forward to working with our local business community and our supporters as we continue to raise the funds needed for this project,” said Ty Orton, executive director, DSU Heritage Foundation. “We thank Sanford and American Bank Center who have provided two of the lead gifts for this important community project.”
“We are excited to be a part of the Sanford Sports Complex that will serve athletes of all ages for years to come,” said Michael LeBeau, M.D., president/CEO of the Bismarck region of Sanford Health. “We’re proud to support the communities we serve and will continue to be a part of their growth.”
The Sanford Sports Complex, at the corner of State Avenue and Fairway Drive, was designed by EAPC Architects Engineers. Guided by JE Dunn Construction Company, the project will begin the competitive bidding process in early 2022. Groundbreaking is slated for the spring of 2022.
