As a Sanford Heart transplant surgeon, Thav Thambi-Pillai, M.D., gives patients hope.
“In my career, I can truly make a difference in the life of patients with organ failure,” he said. “When we transplant these patients, they get a second chance at life.”
He also makes a difference through his support of the Gift of Time hospice campaign, which benefits Ava’s House by Sanford, the new acute-level, in-patient hospice facility in Sioux Falls.
“I believe how we die is equally as important as how we lived our life,” said Dr. Thav Thambi. “The last few months and weeks of the life need to be dignified, pain-free and comfortable. That’s close to my heart.
“I truly believe that in giving, you receive,” he said. “I think it empowers those you’re helping, as it empowers you. For me, it’s like a battery being charged.”
