Sanford Mid-Dakota Medical Center in Chamberlain broke ground today on what will be the newest nursing home in South Dakota since 2001. When complete late 2010, the new Sanford Mid-Dakota Care Center will be the most modern facility in South Dakota.
The facility, attached to the west end of the Sanford Mid-Dakota Hospital, will offer five different room configurations for 44 residents. Each wing will have its own home-like living and dining room area. There will alsobe a central activity area with a multi-purpose room for use as a theater, chapel or for other indoor activities. The new location on the hospital campus will also allow for more efficient medical services for both residents and staff.
“Our focus for this new facility is resident centered care,” said Sanford Mid-Dakota CEO Maureen Cadwell. “This facility will exceed today’s standards for residential living and will provide a wonderful environment for our current residents and those who may need our services in the future.”
The total investment of the project is more than $5 million, which includes nearly $850,000 raised locally through a capital campaign effort.
“Sanford is excited to continue its commitment to the communities surrounding Chamberlain with the addition of this new facility,” said Ed Weiland, President, Sanford Health Network. “We, along with the local board, recognized the need for the replacement of the current facility and value the partnership with the local communities.”
Construction on the building will begin in two weeks. The facility is expected to open fall 2010.
