Sanford Health is honoring the enduring legacy of philanthropist Denny Sanford with the construction of the Sanford House, a facility that will pay tribute to the health system’s name sake and contain the Sanford Health Foundation offices and an event space.
Sanford Health leadership made the announcement Tuesday night in Sioux Falls at an employee event held in conjunction with Sanford Health’s Regional Board Education Retreat.
Located on the Road to the Cure near the Sanford Center in north Sioux Falls, the $6 million building will be more than 17,000 square feet.
“Denny Sanford has surely transformed health care through his unprecedented and extraordinary generosity,” said Micah Aberson, executive vice president for the Sanford Health Foundation. “Denny is the quintessential example of the impact a person can have when they think beyond themselves. Through the Sanford House, we honor our benefactor.”
Denny Sanford has donated nearly $1 billion to Sanford Health to help establish initiatives that improve health care in the upper Midwest and across the globe. His $400 million gift to Sanford Health in 2007 was the single largest to a health care organization ever. His generosity has also allowed for programs in global clinics and research of children’s diseases, type 1 diabetes and breast cancer. In 2014, Denny Sanford provided a $125 million gift to establish Sanford Imagenetics, a first-of-its-kind program that integrates genomic testing in to primary care for adults.

It will be a real tribute to the impact of giving back. I am proud to have helped fuel the flame of what is now Sanford Health and believe that the Sanford House will continue to fuel the flame of philanthropy.”
The Sanford Health Foundation is the fundraising arm of Sanford Health. It manages endowment funds from individual, family and corporate donors that support the area of each donor’s choice. The Children’s Miracle Network and Cure Kids Cancer, special programs that support Sanford Children’s, are also part of the Sanford Health Foundation.
Sanford Health will break ground on the Sanford House this fall.
