The communities of Canton, SD and Inwood, IA begin 2009 with a new healthcare relationship with Sanford Health. Sanford Health’s purchase of Canton-Inwood Memorial Hospital (CIMH) and its attached assisted living facility became final today. The hospital is now named Sanford Hospital Canton-Inwood, and the assisted living facility is now named Sanford Hiawatha Heights.
In September, the Canton-Inwood Memorial Hospital membership, which is made up of the Canton Chamber of Commerce and Inwood Horizons, approved the sale to Sioux Falls-based Sanford Health. In a separate vote, the Canton City Commission approved an extended land lease of the CIMH site to Sanford Health. Both actions affirm full integration of CIMH with Sanford Health.
“Full integration with Sanford Health means healthcare will remain strong in the Canton-Inwood area for years to come,” said Sanford Hospital Canton-Inwood CEO Eric Hilmoe. “Sanford Health is committed to providing our neighbors and friends in this community the best level of care, close to home.”
Sanford Health’s relationship with the hospital began in 1991. The transaction includes a Sanford Health commitment to invest $4 million in improvements in the hospital and infrastructure. The proceeds of the sale have also been placed in a healthcare improvement fund. The fund will be managed by the current hospital board who will decide how to best use the money to improve the health of the community.
