Two Sanford Health Plan leaders attended the Becker’s CEO + CFO Roundtable in Chicago, Illinois, bringing health industry leaders from across the country to share ideas and exchange best practices on improving patient and member care.
John Snyder, president of Sanford Health Plan, and Emily Griese, Ph.D., chief operating and population health officer at Sanford Health Plan, were there. Both gave a presentation together called “Creating Virtual Preventive Care Programs for Risk Adjustment,” where they shared details behind Sanford Health Plan’s risk adjustment strategy that leverages virtual care.
“It was refreshing to hear how people really respect Sanford Health, the things we’re doing, the innovations in rural health care,” Snyder told Sanford Health News. “A big takeaway for me is to hear how valuable people look at a provider owned health plan and how big an asset that is to a system — one of which is the approach to population health.”
In addition, Griese focused on population health, where she shared how Sanford Health Plan is uniquely positioned to meet the broad needs of the communities it serves across the upper Midwest.
“The new wave of population health is empowering our patients and members to take control of their health,” Griese said. “We are adopting a proactive data-driven approach to keeping people healthy. By combining demographic, claims and clinical data in a much more predictive way across an entire population, we can better manage chronic conditions and improve the overall health of the members we serve.”
Snyder sat in on a panel centered on identifying and tackling roadblocks in risk-based contracting. He also joined health care leaders from Oregon Health & Science University, Intermountain Healthcare and American Medical Group Association Consulting to discuss the economic challenges health care organizations have faced the past few years.
The conference was held Nov. 9-10.
