At Sanford Health, particular employees go above and beyond their normal workday duties and Brittany Hassebroek is one of them. Hassebroek is a scheduler for Sanford Women’s in the Sanford MB3 building in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She manages the schedules for all doctors and midwives within the Sanford Women’s department .

“I have always been intrigued by the health care industry and all of its moving parts,” Hassebroek said. “I knew that I wanted to help people in need in some way, shape, or form, so I majored in therapeutic recreation in college.”

Why Sanford Health?

Not being from South Dakota, Hassebroek never really knew much about Sanford Health. While attending the University of South Dakota, she learned about the opportunities offered at the organization. That led her to complete her three-month internship in the therapeutic recreation department. She fell in love with the people and values at Sanford Health.

After graduation, Hassebroek decided to come back as an inpatient therapy aide because she felt like she found a home at Sanford Health. She then moved into Sanford Women’s department, where she has been since.

“I did not know that I wanted to work within women’s, but I have definitely found an amazing group of women to work with,” Hassebroek said. “I have always really enjoyed the medical field.”

When asked what it means to be a part of Sanford Health, Hassebroek said it means family. “It’s what I feel every day when talking with my coworkers, the nurses, the doctors and the patients.”

Sanford Health provides employees with support, but Hassebroek said her patient access team takes it to the next step by helping and encouraging each other no matter what is happening in each others’ lives.

“If I need to leave suddenly, I know my gals will take over seamlessly without fuss, ” Hassebroek said of her team. “We also support each other in our personal lives, and it’s been amazing building relationships with them.”

Rewards of the job

Hassebroek finds her job rewarding within the Sanford Women’s department by helping new moms before and during their pregnancy. She enjoys hearing the excitement in a first-time mom’s voice. “They are so overjoyed and it’s fun to be a part of that tiny moment in their lives,” she said.

Moments like these aren’t the only parts of her day that motivate Hassebroek. She also said the level of support and respect she gets from all of her co-workers makes it really easy to want to come to work every day.

At Sanford Health, Hassebroek has built positive relationships with all parts of the MB3 clinic. She feels the sense of accomplishment knowing that her peers can rely and trust her when it comes to asking the correct questions and getting the answers that are needed.
