Couple’s twin boys end up having top names of the year

BISMARCK, N.D. — Ben and Mandy Houdek, of Bismarck, proved to be good predictors of boy names when their identical twins were born in January 2016.

“The beauty about having twins is that my husband and I each got to pick a name,” said Mandy Houdek. “My husband picked Greyson and I picked Jaxon.”

Like many parents, they thought they were picking unique names for their children. While she had heard the names before, they weren’t very common. Little did she know that her twin boys had two of the most popular names given to newborn boys at Sanford Health in 2017.

“I guess we just started a trend,” joked Mandy Houdek, who works in Sanford Health’s marketing department. “My boys may have two of the most popular names, but they are still unique. They’re identical twins, but each one has their own personality. They’re very competitive with one another, but at the end of the day, they’d be lost without each other.”

All of the top names born in the health system in 2017:

  • Girls: Emma; Lillian, Lily; Abigail, Abby; Nora, Norah; Harper
  • Boys: Jackson, Jaxon; Grayson, Greyson; Henry; Liam; Theodore
