NHL’s Cullen and Stanley Cup visit Fargo children’s hospital

It was a great day in Fargo as three-time Stanley Cup winner Matt Cullen brought the Stanley Cup filled with donuts to Sanford Children’s Hospital. Kids who were staying in the hospital had a chance to see the Cup and have their photo taken with it.

The event took place in Cully’s Kids Cabin, a playroom at Sanford Medical Center Fargo created thanks to a $1 million donation from Cullen Children’s Foundation, a corporation started by Matt and his wife, Bridget.

Cullen’s Children’s Foundation and Sanford Health share a vision of helping children through support of children’s health care needs with an emphasis on cancer. Cully’s Kids Cabin at Sanford Medical Center Fargo is a great place for hospitalized kids of all ages where they can play, relax, enjoy arts and crafts, make snacks in the kitchen, play all-star hockey shootout and video and interactive games.

Cullen said of his visit to Sanford Children’s Hospital: “We just try to have fun with it and bring it to as many people and places we can. It’s not really about me or taking advantage of my time. It’s more about bringing it to the community and the kids, especially. Seeing the smiles on their face, that makes it worthwhile and makes it fun.”

Matt grew up playing hockey in Moorhead, Minnesota and went on to play for several NHL teams, including the Pittsburgh Penguins, who won the Stanley Cup in 2016 and 2017, and the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006. He also spent a season with the Minnesota Wild.

After his visit to Sanford Children’s Hospital, Matt stopped by the F-M RedHawks game to throw out the first pitch, followed by a trip to the Moorhead Dairy Queen to meet fans and eat ice cream out of the Cup.
