Sanford Health named semifinalist for national Freedom Award

Sanford Health was a semifinalist for the 2019 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, commonly referred to as the Freedom Award.

Learn more about the award.

The Freedom Award is the highest recognition presented by the Department of Defense to employers who provide the most outstanding support for National Guard and Reserve members. Since the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve program’s inception in 1996, it has awarded 265 employers this honor.

The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve state committees selected 135 semifinalists from 2,415 submissions by service members. Next, they will be narrowed down to 30 finalists. Then, a national selection board — made up of senior Department of Defense officials, representatives from the Reserve Components, employer associations and past recipients — will select up to 15 employers to receive the Freedom Award in a ceremony at the Pentagon in August.

Nominated employers of any size, from industry to the public sector, can come from the 50 states, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, District of Columbia and Guam-Northern Mariana Islands.
