Moving to a new home can be stressful or even scary. Making the move to assisted living can come with its own challenges, specifically, learning the lay of the land.
Fortunately, two residents at Crane Meadows Assisted Living at Good Samaritan Society – Grand Island Village in Nebraska are stepping up to provide a warm welcome for newcomers.
Residents Carolyn Retzlaff and Diane Geis are known as the “Welcome Ladies” at Crane Meadows assisted living apartments. Equipped with their own name tags, they give new residents a tour of the location and show them the ropes.
“They get in and they don’t know which way to go. That’s why it’s good to show ‘em,” said Retzlaff, the “talker” of the duo.
“We try not to let them feel alone,” Geis added. “We try to make them feel like they’re family because we feel like we’re a family here, and we try to bring them into the family.”
