Sanford Children’s Clinic Duncan now open

Children in Duncan, OK now have their own Castle of Care™. Sanford Children’s Clinic Duncan recently opened its castle doors to children in the area. The 8,000-square-foot clinic resembles a medieval castle, and it consists of 12 exam rooms, a procedure room, as well as lab and x-ray.

Sanford Children’s Clinic Duncan is the first Sanford World Clinic built as a part of the initiatives outlined after a $400 million donation from Denny Sanford in 2007. Sanford chose to build its first children’s clinic in Duncan for one main reason. “The community of Duncan was in need of pediatric care close to home. We are really excited about the new facility and look forward to what it will bring to the children of our community,” said Deena Wise, DO, Sanford Children’s Clinic Duncan pediatrician.

Connected to Sanford’s electronic medical records system, docZ, Sanford Children’s Clinic Duncan is part of the integrated information system used by Sanford Health. The docZ system allows digital X-rays, labs and other medical information to be integrated within the health system. The clinic will also have a video conferencing cart that can be brought to each patient room for administrative or clinical needs.

The new clinic emulates the design of the Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, but it wasn’t built without regard to the environment. In an effort to be environmentally friendly, the clinic was built using Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) standards and uses green features, including water-efficient landscaping, recycled content, regional materials, high-efficiency fixtures and low-emitting materials.

Joining the Sanford Children’s Duncan Clinic medical, technical and administrative staff will be the community’s first pediatricians, Dr. Wise, an Oklahoma native, and Ana Garcia, MD. Dr. Wise completed her doctorate at the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Oklahoma State University, as well as post-graduate studies at the Tulsa Regional Medical Center in Tulsa, OK, while Dr. Ana Garcia completed her bachelor’s at the Universidad de Puerto Rico in Cayey, Puerto, as well her medical degree at the Rico School of Medicine, Universidad de Puerto Rico. Dr. Garcia will join the clinic early 2010.

“I’m very excited to be here and to be working for Sanford,” said Wise. “Duncan has already become our home.”

Sanford Health believes care is best provided close to home, so Sanford Children’s providers work closely with physicians and staff at Duncan Regional Hospital and other regional pediatric organizations to keep care close to home. In addition, physicians in the new clinic are closely connected to the exceptional team of pediatric physicians at Sanford Children’s, who are specially trained in a wide variety of pediatric subspecialties, further benefiting the patients.
