THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. — With the recent completion of the Sanford Thief River Falls Wellness Center expansion, community members marked its opening and toured the new space on Oct. 18.
The community open house event included a 1K and 5K fun run/walk, tours of the new space, refreshments, games and giveaways. Over 100 community members participated in the fun run/walk and more than 800 community members toured the newly expanded wellness center.
The expansion project started in October 2015 when the wellness center was relocated to the Sanford southeast campus. About $300,000 was raised through philanthropy from hundreds of donors throughout the community.
“This project would not have been possible without the generosity of the donors who believed in the vision of creating an interactive space for families in our community,” said Teresa Fay, foundation development officer, Sanford Thief River Falls.
The new space is complete with a children’s fitZone room that has an indoor playground, interactive games and an expanded gymnastics space with trampoline and foam pit. The space also includes an indoor walking/running track, two new group exercise rooms and additional free weight space.
