Sanford Pentagon chosen to host NCAA championships

NCAA officials announced Wednesday the City of Sioux Falls has been chosen to host eight Division II national championships over four years beginning in 2015, six of which will be held at the Sanford Pentagon.

Championships include 2015, 2016 and 2018 women’s basketball; 2016 volleyball; 2016 wrestling; 2017 and 2018 men’s basketball; and 2018 men’s and women’s outdoor track and field.

The Pentagon will host the basketball and volleyball championships. Wrestling will be held at the Denny Sanford Premier Center, and the University of Sioux Falls Lillibridge Track & Field Complex will host outdoor track and field.

“This is truly a historic moment for the City of Sioux Falls and the entire state of South Dakota,” said Wes Hall, executive director of the Sioux Falls Sports Authority. “By entrusting us with these championships, the NCAA has put its faith in Sioux Falls and we will not disappoint.”

The Sioux Falls Sports Authority submitted 19 NCAA championship bids in September, covering a wide range of Division I and Division II events from 2015 to 2018. On Oct. 30, the City of Sioux Falls was selected as a finalist to host Division II men’s and women’s outdoor track and field, Division II men’s basketball, Division II women’s basketball, Division II women’s volleyball and Division II wrestling. A total of 1,948 bids were received by the NCAA as part of the site-selection effort.

About the Sioux Falls Sports Authority
The Sioux Falls Sports Authority was formed in 2006 by community leaders to recruit major sporting events to the Sioux Falls area. The organization attracts international, national, regional, and state sporting events by operating, leasing, enhancing or owning sports facilities in the Sioux Falls area.
