SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — For the second year in a row, Sanford USD Medical Center has been awarded on Newsweek’s list of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals 2025. The annual ranking recognizes the top maternity hospitals in the U.S., highlighting medical centers that excel in providing exceptional care throughout pregnancy, delivery and postpartum care.
“Being named an America’s Best Maternity Hospital for the second year in a row is a true testament to the care team we have guiding mothers during pregnancy and childbirth,” said Melanie Rusche, vice president of operations for women’s and children’s services at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls. “Bringing life into the world is such a precious gift and we’re grateful for the women and couples we get to care for as they start and grow their families.”
The ranking is based on three pillars:
- Nationwide Online Survey: Healthcare professionals and hospital managers with knowledge about maternity processes e.g., neonatal and perinatal doctors, nurses, and midwives were asked to recommend leading maternity hospitals in the U.S.
- Patient Experience Survey: Survey of the overall patient experience in the hospital.
- Hospital Quality Metrics: Indicators relevant to maternity care were considered.
High-quality maternity care, provided from pregnancy through birth and postpartum is key to the long-term health of newborns and women who give birth. Given that maternity care is a major component of health care, Newsweek and Statista, the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider have partnered for the fourth time to identify America’s Best Maternity Hospitals in 2025.
Sanford USD Medical Center delivered 3,431 babies in 2024 and also offers several parenting preparation, childbirth and pregnancy classes.
