SIOUX FALLS, S.D.Sanford USD Medical Center has been named to the Becker’s Healthcare list of “Great Hospitals in America.” The Sioux Falls medical center is the only hospital in the state of South Dakota to be named to the list.

Sanford shares the list of 100 great hospitals with health care systems of high caliber across the country, including Cleveland Clinic, John’s Hopkins Hospital and Mayo Clinic.

“This is the result of a team who truly puts the patient at the forefront of the work they do each and every day at Sanford USD Medical Center,” said Paul Hanson, president and CEO of Sanford Health in Sioux Falls. “I am grateful to every individual who makes a difference in patient care. We cannot do it alone, it is truly a team effort.”

Hospitals on the list are recognized based on clinical excellence, patient safety, innovation efforts, research, medical education along with many other qualities. Recently, Sanford USD Medical Center was given an ‘A’ Leapfrog Safety Grade for the second year in a row.

“Participating in the awards process has been especially rewarding for the leadership at Sanford USD Medical Center, as we’ve been able to reflect on the accomplishments, awards and innovations our teams have been part of,” Hanson said.

The Becker’s Hospital Review editorial team selected hospitals for inclusion based on analysis of ranking and award agencies, including U.S. News & World Report’s 2022-23 rankings, Healthgrades, CMS star ratings and The Leapfrog Group safety grades. Becker’s also accepted nominations for this list.
