SIOUX FALLS, S.D.
Steven Powell, MD, oncology and hematology physician at Sanford Cancer Center, has earned the Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Oncology distinction. Dr. Powell is also an active investigator on numerous clinical trials and leads a research program focused on developing new cancer therapies.

The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) is the world’s leading organization for oncology providers and professionals who care for patients with cancer. The Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (FASCO) distinction recognizes those who carry out the specialty of oncology in their daily work and have an impact on the patients they serve through their clinical and research efforts.

“Being able to offer clinical trials and additional therapies to cancer patients right here in the Midwest is extremely impactful,” said Dr. Steven Powell. “The strong collaboration we have with ASCO is part of the reason why we are able to offer these innovative trials. This distinction is a testament to the team we have built that is focused on improving treatments for patients no matter where they live in our region.”

Dr. Powell is a member of the ASCO scientific program committee for head and neck cancer, is on the ASCO TAPUR Precision Oncology tumor board and is an associate editor and reviewer for the Journal of Clinical Oncology Precision Oncology Journal.

He graduated medical school from the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine and completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Minnesota. He is also fellowship trained and board certified in hematology and oncology.
