BISMARCK, N.D., March 23, 2021 — Sanford Health will begin offering COVID-19 vaccine appointments to patients within the Sanford Ninth Street Special Care Unit in Bismarck starting March 23. The clinic will replace the current Sanford vaccine clinics at Bismarck State College and the UND Building which will no longer distribute vaccines.

“As our vaccination rate for patients continues to increase, Sanford Health teams continue to plan for and lead vaccination efforts in Bismarck and across our region,” said Dr. Todd Schaffer, vice president of clinic, Sanford Health – Bismarck. “The Ninth Street location will provide a convenient space for our patients and an additional day to schedule COVID-19 vaccine appointments.”

The Special Care Unit, located in the former Bismarck Surgical Associates building, at 600 N. 9th Street, was previously used by Sanford as an off-site 20-bed hospital unit to care for COVID-19 patients.

Sanford Health will notify patients when the vaccine is available for them. Sanford patients will receive a My Sanford Chart message, a letter and a voice message or text message when they are eligible to set up their vaccine appointment. All patients are encouraged to enroll in a My Sanford Chart account if they do not already have one as this is the fastest and most efficient way to communicate. To enroll in My Sanford Chart, visit mysanfordchart.org.

The clinic will offer appointments Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Patients will be observed on-site for 15 minutes after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. The most common side effects are injection site pain, soreness and swelling.
