FARGO, N.D. – Sanford Health Fargo is breaking ground on the Peltier Lodge, a temporary and long-term lodging facility for patients at the Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center.
WHAT: Peltier Lodge groundbreaking
WHEN: Tuesday, June 17, at 3 p.m.
WHERE: 717 4th St. N., Fargo
The Peltier Lodge, located at the site of the old Scandia Hotel, will be made possible entirely through philanthropy, featuring a transformational lead gift from philanthropist Norma Peltier. The 28,400-square-foot facility will feature spaces to support patients and loved ones during treatment and throughout their outpatient care and monitoring.
“The Peltier Lodge will meet a huge need for our community,” said Susan Jarvis, Sanford Fargo chief operating officer. “For patients and loved ones who are far from home, cancer treatment and outpatient care can take a toll – physically, emotionally and financially. The Peltier Lodge will help ease these burdens for cancer patients and their families, offering a state-of-the-art home-like retreat that will play a critical role in comfort and healing.”
The Peltier Lodge will allow Roger Maris Cancer center to expand the blood and bone marrow transplant program, with the potential to add more services to help more patients. Each day, an average of 54 Roger Maris Cancer Center patients need temporary and long-term lodging. As the blood and bone marrow transplant program continues to grow, it is anticipated that number will double in the coming years.
Of the more than 600 patients who utilize the Roger Maris Cancer center each day, nearly half are traveling more than 60 miles from home. Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center is home to North Dakota’s only blood and bone marrow transplant program.
