SIOUX FALLS, S.D. Divyajot Sandhu, M.D., an interventional neurologist at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, is the first in South Dakota to use a new, cutting-edge stroke care technology.

The advanced neurointerventional system, known as The FreeClimb 70 reperfusion system, essentially combines the FreeClimb 70 catheter with another catheter, known as the Tenzing® 7 delivery catheter, to predictably and rapidly reach target lesions in stroke patients.

“This new technology is a significant advancement in stroke care and has the opportunity to drastically change the outcome for stroke patients,” said Dr. Divyajot Sandhu. “The procedure is much less invasive and helps patients restore their quality of life much sooner following a stroke. This first of its kind technology reduces the risk of long-term disability in patients and can potentially help save the life of someone suffering from a stroke.”

As the region’s only Joint Commission accredited stroke program in the region, Sanford Health has a team of talented experts, paired with the latest in technologies, to receive and treat the most complex stroke cases.

D. Sandhu graduated from Dyanand Medical College and Hospital in Punjab, India and completed his residency from University of Missouri Columbia Hospital in Columbia. He completed his stroke and neuro endovascular fellowships at University of Minnesota and is board certified in neurology and vascular neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology.
