FARGO, N.D.Sanford Ambulance will host a citizen’s academy designed to provide residents with invaluable insights into the world of emergency medical services and equip them with life-saving skills.

The Citizens EMS Academy, which runs each Thursday from Sept. 7 to Oct. 12 from 6-8 p.m., offers an immersive experience for participants to understand the critical role EMS plays in our community’s well-being. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage with seasoned paramedics, EMTs and first responders who will share their knowledge, expertise and real-world experiences.

Through a combination of hands-on training, information lectures and interactive simulations, participants will gain a deep understanding of:
• First aid techniques
• CPR and AED usage
• Recognizing and responding to medical emergencies
• Dispatch and 911 operations
• Ambulance operations and equipment

“We believe that a well-informed community is a safer community,” said Kristi Engelstad, Sanford Ambulance paramedic and clinical learning and development specialist. “By hosting the Citizens EMS Academy, we aim to empower our residents with the skills and knowledge needed to assist in emergencies, potentially saving lives.”

The academy is open to individuals 18 years of age and older. No prior medical experience is required to enroll.
