Jordy Nelson to headline Argus Leader Sports Awards at Pentagon
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Jordy Nelson, Green Bay Packers wide receiver and Super Bowl champion, will be the featured speaker for the third annual Argus Leader Sports Awards to be held May 16 at the Sanford Pentagon.
Sanford Health is the presenting sponsor for the event, which will honor high school athletes, coaches, teams and community members for their achievements during the 2017-18 school year.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to come to Sioux Falls to celebrate the successes of high school athletes and share insight into how sports have been a rewarding part of my life,” said Nelson, who follows Peyton Manning and Cal Ripken Jr. as featured speakers for the awards show.
Nelson has amassed nearly 8,000 career receiving yards and 69 touchdowns during his 10-year career. He helped the Packers win Super Bowl XLV, finishing with nine catches for 140 yards in a 31-25 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Nelson and his wife, Emily, are active in community causes and in 2014 started the Nelson Family Community Foundation, which sponsors a benefit in Nelson’s hometown in Kansas to help area families in need.
The Argus Leader Sports Awards is an annual event that honors more than 100 high school athletes from across the state, culminating with the unveiling of boys and girls athletes of the year.
