SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Sanford Health President and CEO Bill Gassen is taking part in a fireside chat at the Healthcare AI Summit in Minneapolis June 10 to share insights on how Sanford Health is leveraging AI, virtual care and clinical innovation to transform health care delivery across rural America.
The Health AI Institute is a Minnesota-based organization dedicated to providing a non-political, non-partisan platform for addressing the most critical issues, challenges, and opportunities in health care through the power of artificial intelligence. Other confirmed speakers for the summit include experts and leaders from the Mayo Clinic, UC Davis Health, Medtronic, Microsoft, Georgetown Law, NVIDIA, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Bipartisan Policy Center.
Gopal Khanna, Chairman and Senior Felow at the Health AI Institute, will moderate the fireside chat. The conversation will explore how technology expands access to care, improves patient outcomes and supports the health care workforce, while highlighting strategic partnerships, cutting-edge research, and responsible AI adoption for sustainable rural health models.
“We are embracing innovation and reimagining how we deliver world-class care to strengthen access, quality and sustainability in rural America,” said Gassen. “We know that the convenience, simplicity, and personalized experiences enabled by technology in other areas of our lives have led consumers to expect similar experiences in health care. People living in rural America are no exception.”
Sanford Health’s mission to provide world-class care close to home led to new partnerships with Black Hills Orthopedic and Spine Center and Black Hills Surgical Hospital in 2024, and Marshfield Clinic Health System and Security Health Plan in 2025. Through these strategic partnerships, Sanford Health is improving access to care for more patients than ever before and providing new opportunities for its providers to accelerate clinical innovation and research through nearly 1,500 active clinical trials and studies.
In 2024, Gassen led Sanford Health through a historic transformation with the opening of the new Sanford Health Virtual Care Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Virtual Care Center is part of Sanford’s virtual care initiative, made possible thanks to a $350 million gift from Denny Sanford. The initiative is designed to reimagine the future of care delivery and train the next generation of clinicians.
