The Sanford Health leadership team has created a plan to help its workers most impacted financially through the COVID-19 pandemic. The Sanford Family Stability Plan will benefit hourly, non-exempt employees who are hit hardest by the economic challenges of COVID-19.
“We know the COVID-19 pandemic is causing a disruption to regularly scheduled work,” President and CEO Kelby Krabbenhoft said. “It has us all feeling uncertain about many things like unpredictable volumes, safety of our families, finances and simply when life can go back to normal. You and your family are important to us — and we want to make sure you are supported in this challenging time.”
Sanford is ‘a family’
Executive Vice President Micah Aberson says this pandemic is hitting especially close to home with health care.
“We’ve seen our volumes drop off,” Aberson said. “As we anticipate the surge, whatever that surge looks like — and the modeling we’re doing against it — we want to do something to make sure our people felt that the organization is here to take care of them. Especially those on the front lines, making contact with our patients. They are incredibly important today and will be just as, or even more important tomorrow.”
Good Samaritan Society President Randy Bury said COVID-19 has impacted everything they do.
“We owe a debt of gratitude to our frontline caregivers who are protecting the most vulnerable during this time of great need,” said Randy Bury, president of the Good Samaritan Society. “Our support plan offers much-deserved assistance to our employees. Our staff’s determination to continue to provide the best care to all those we serve has never been more critical.”
Through the Sanford Family Stability Plan, all non-exempt, hourly employees with both Sanford Health and Good Samaritan Society will receive:
- A one-time stability payment to their paychecks ranging from $50 to $300
- Health care premiums covered in full from April through June 2020
- Paid time off flexibility
But that’s not all.
Sanford Health employees who are salaried have an opportunity to receive support either financially or through PTO.
Employee Crisis Fund: A call to action
COVID-19 has shined a spotlight on a greater need, and Sanford Health Foundation President Bobbie Tibbetts says now is an opportunity for employees to step up and help other employees.
The Employee Crisis Fund, which dates back several years, is available to anyone who has experienced financial strain or unforeseen, significant life events from house fires to flooding. Gifts range from $5 to $5,000 and beyond, and 100% of all donations to this fund will support Sanford Health and Good Samaritan Society employees.
Employees under consideration would be eligible for up to $1,000.
“We have donors who have historically benefited from this fund who are now ongoing supporters because they understand the benefit, the impact and that sometimes you don’t choose the situation you’re in,” Tibbetts said. “It’s fantastic to have this funding within our organization, supported by our employees for our employees … truly family helping family.”
