Sanford Health offers a newer benefit for its employees: paid volunteer time off.
This is a benefit that allows all employees to volunteer either individually or as part of a team for a cause that is personally meaningful to them.
Ashley Wenger-Slaba, senior vice president of employee experience, education, and workforce relations, said the benefit reflects Sanford Heath’s focus on its people, patients and communities.
“As an employer, Sanford is proud to embody a strong culture of meaningful work where employees can make a difference both inside and outside the walls of Sanford,” Wenger-Slaba said.

Since 2021, full-time employees have received up to eight paid hours per year, and part-time employees have received up to four paid hours. Employees can use the time at most organizations holding 501(c)3 or 501(c)6 status, other than Sanford Health.
The volunteer time is not required, though leaders like Wenger-Slaba hope employees take advantage of the benefit.
“Our employees are our best ambassadors, and this benefit is one way in which we can show up for the diverse communities we serve,” she said.
