Miss America visits Sanford Children’s Hospital in Fargo

FARGO, N.D. — Three-year-old Hancee Feller smiled shyly as Miss America 2018 Cara Mund stepped off the elevators at Sanford Children’s Hospital in Fargo. It didn’t take long for that shy smile to turn into a full grin when Cara walked over to her and greeted her.

Hancee spent her first 56 days of life at Sanford Children’s NICU when she was born prematurely. But today’s return visit to Sanford Children’s Hospital was purely fun for Hancee. She was set to have a very special tea party with “royalty.”

Meeting Miss America

Mund won the Miss America pageant in September. A Bismarck, North Dakota, native, she is the first Miss North Dakota to win the Miss America pageant.

During her visit to Sanford Children’s Hospital in Fargo, she had a special tea party with current and former patients in the Cully’s Kids Cabin playroom. She also visited patients room to room bringing smiles and joy throughout the entire children’s floor.

“These young kids don’t get the typical childhood that most of us get. I think it’s really important to come in here and brighten their day just a little bit,” Mund said.

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals

Sanford Children’s Hospital in Fargo serves as North Dakota’s only Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. Since 2007, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals has been the official platform of the Miss America Organization. Each year, Miss America serves as the national goodwill ambassador for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The partnership has resulted in more than $15 million raised to help millions of sick and injured kids.

“In this role, I get to travel across the United States and work with numerous hospitals,” Mund said. She has visited a number of hospitals but said it was special to visit the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital in her home state of North Dakota.
