Sanford Health named to Becker’s 150 top places to work

For the third year in a row, Sanford Health has been named to the list of Becker’s Healthcare 150 top places to work in health care.

According to Becker’s, the health systems and companies included on this list are committed to supporting their teams through comprehensive benefits, opportunities for both personal and professional growth, inclusive and empowering work environments, and resources that promote a healthy work-life balance. Many also extend their positive impact beyond the workplace, engaging in community service and championing social responsibility.

“We are committed to meeting the professional and personal needs of our caregivers – just as they are dedicated to meeting the needs of our patients, residents and communities,” said Bill Gassen, president and CEO of Sanford Health.

“It is an honor for our health system to be named one of the best places to work in health care for a third consecutive year. We remain focused on building an intentional culture of listening and regularly gathering feedback to enhance the experience for our Sanford family and ensure they feel supported both at work and home.”

In 2025, Sanford Health finalized a partnership with Marshfield (Wisconsin) Clinic Health System. The combined organization has nearly 56,000 employees, 56 hospitals, 4,500 providers, two fully integrated health plans, specialty pharmacies and research institutions. Teams have begun the complex process of integrating systems, processes and workplace cultures to create a unified organization.

Driven by employee input, Sanford has made a significant expansion in benefits, including an increased family building benefit, more compassionate leave and a doubling of free mental health sessions.

Recent workplace accolades

Sanford was awarded the 2025 “Platinum Bell Seal” for workplace mental health by Mental Health America. Sanford Health is also one of only 11 health systems in the nation currently at the “Gold” level in the American Medical Association “Joy in Medicine” program. The health system’s physician engagement scores improved by 11 points in the last year, and Sanford has reduced turnover by 3%.

In 2024, Forbes ranked Sanford Health among the best employers in North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota, and recognized the health system as a top employer for veterans. Sanford Health also ranks in the top 10% in the health care sector for meaningful work.

The Becker’s Hospital Review editorial team accepted nominations for this list. Sanford Health is the only health system in the Dakotas and Wisconsin included on this list and only one of two included from Minnesota.
