John and Linda Head faced a lot of turbulence, searching for apartments, before landing their new home at Good Samaritan Society – Fox Run in Greeley, Colorado.
“Then he found this one and I thought, wow!” Linda says about their Good Samaritan independent living apartment.
“I’m happier. Plus, I’ve got all my peeps around me. And John.”
After 20 years living in a Denver suburb, the two sold their business and angled for a spot close to where Linda grew up.
“Linda Sue was starting to get the beginning of some memory issues but also I knew that she wanted to be up here in Greeley,” John says.
Linda adds, “first of all, I can breathe without oxygen on my face. Second of all, it’s home.”
‘Huge win’
Finding Good Samaritan, from their new neighbors to extensive amenities, has been a blessing. If the Heads wind up needing assisted or long-term care, they’ll get priority because they’re already residents.
“It is a huge win, absolutely,” John says. “Here you’re buying an environment, a community, and an existential feeling that you’re welcome.
“I appreciate how they maintain these sofas, these chairs, the carpet, the walls, the paint, everything. It’s immaculate.”
Maintenance is not on John’s to-do list anymore, opening more time for the pilot’s passions to take off.
“This is a rigorous sport to do it correctly,” John said, showing off his airplane, a Cessna Turbo 182.
His interest in general aviation is inspired by quality time with his dad.
“He’d take me out as a kid to Midway Airport (in Chicago) and we’d watch airplanes take off and land at night and daytime. I was just enthralled with it,” John said.
His hangar and the nearby airfield are just a few miles down the road from Good Samaritan. Meaning John can enjoy his hobby and then glide home.
“He’s got an incredible sense of humor and so does Linda,” says Cassidy Moore, Good Samaritan senior living manager. “They’re an incredible asset to our community.”
Linda points out, “The people here are like my new family and friends. It’s just all around a positive experience.”
‘It was a no-brainer’
Even pets add to the hospitality. Moore’s dog Dino has been greeting guests since he was eight weeks old.
“I wish I had his job. They love his curls. It’s fun to get in there and massage the curls,” Moore says.
“Dino has a superpower, and his superpower is he makes everybody feel special.”
Making Good Samaritan a great place to stay.
“I recognized the quality of this space,” John says, remembering his first tour. “The accoutrements, everything about here, the people, are tremendous. It was a no-brainer.”
Linda says, “It’s really nice just to be in our home.”
