FARGO, N.D., Aug. 2, 2021 – The American Hospital Association (AHA) has honored Sanford Health in Fargo for the health system’s 100 years of participation and leadership in the AHA. Elizabeth Summy, regional executive for the American Hospital Association, presented the award to Bryan Nermoe, president and CEO of Sanford Fargo on July 28.

Sanford Health’s origins in Fargo began with St. Luke’s Hospital in 1908. The hospital became a member of the American Hospital Association in 1921 and has maintained its membership through the creation of MeritCare Health System in 1993 and the merger with Sanford Health in 2009, continuing today.

While the AHA was founded in 1898, the first year of admitting institutional members was 1919.

“The American Hospital Association is proud to recognize Sanford Fargo for their 100 years of membership in the AHA and for their continued commitment to their patients and the community,” said AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack. “Sanford Fargo has been a leader in the integrated delivery of rural health care, genomic medicine, senior care and services and research. Sanford is a trailblazer for innovation and preparing the health care workforce of the future. The AHA applauds the staff and leadership of Sanford Health in Fargo for putting patients first and serving as a cornerstone of care for the communities it serves.”
