Members of the American Health Care Association (AHCA) and National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) spent time in Washington, D.C., in early June for a congressional briefing and chance to meet our policymakers and engage face-to-face to discuss long-term and post-acute care.
That included two executive leaders from Good Samaritan Society: Aimee Middleton and Nate Schema.
“During the congressional briefing, we had the unique opportunity to help lawmakers understand how they can best support the Good Samaritan Society team members to provide incredible care every day,” Good Samaritan Society President and CEO Nate Schema said. “We also have a chance to learn about their priorities so we can work together better into the future.”
Sanford Health News caught up with both of them from Washington, D.C., to learn more about the conversations taking place, what they’re looking forward to discussing or hearing from congressional leaders and most importantly, how it impacts the residents and caregivers of Good Samaritan Society.
“With 70% of our residents living in rural communities, we have a unique perspective to share with policymakers,” Operations Vice President Aimee Middleton said.
Events included a gathering of industry leaders and representatives from Capitol Hill to discuss the most pressing issues facing the senior care industry today including staffing.
“We want to hire more people and care for more seniors but recruitment, especially in rural areas, is difficult,” Middleton added.
