Sanford Health will share its vision for transforming rural care by strategically investing in virtual health at one of the premier conferences for health care executives and policy experts in the United States. The Politico Health Care Summit takes place June 7 in Washington, D.C.
The conference features more than 20 industry-leading speakers, including Luis Garcia, MD, FACS, president of Sanford Health Clinic. The event, which will be attended by leading health care systems from across the country, includes executives from Google, Mayo Clinic, Moderna and The White House along with multiple state senators and representatives. The goal of the conference is to explore how tech and innovation are transforming care and the challenges ahead for access and delivery in the United States.
“Our nation has an opportunity to create policy that shapes a future of care." Dr. Luis Garcia
Dr. Garcia is part of a keynote panel entitled: “Virtual Visits: Examining the Latest in Digital Healthcare.” He will be joined on the panel by Lisa Robin, chief advocacy officer at the Federation of State Medical Boards. The discussion will be moderated by Erin Schumaker, future of health reporter at Politico.
The pandemic spurred innovation in care delivery, accelerating the widespread adoption of telehealth.
“Our nation has an opportunity to create policy that shapes a future of care that increases access and reduces health disparities, meeting the needs of patients, regardless of their ZIP code,” said Dr. Garcia.
“I am eager to share a clinical perspective on the future of virtual visits with this incredible roster of health care executives and regulators.”
In the fall of 2021, Sanford Health announced a $350 million virtual care initiative. As part of the initiative, Sanford Health will focus on expanding access, improving the patient experience, advancing innovation through new research, attracting and training a new generation of clinicians and sharing learning opportunities through an education institute.
Sanford Health has already provided more than 650,000 virtual consults with patients over the last decade — amounting to roughly 25 million miles saved by patients who did not have to travel great distances on country roads or through harsh winter weather to get world-class care.
