Kenyon Martin to speak at SD All-Star Awards Ceremony

Former No. 1 overall NBA draft pick Kenyon Martin will be the featured speaker at the South Dakota All-Star Awards Ceremony at 7 p.m. March 30 in Sioux Falls.

Martin, the college national player of the year in 2000, was a first-team All-American at the University of Cincinnati where he played from 1996-2000. The New Jersey Nets selected Martin with the first overall pick in the 2000 NBA Draft. The power forward made the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2001 and was named an NBA All-Star in 2004. Martin played 15 years in the NBA with five teams, averaging 12.3 points per game and 6.8 rebounds per game during his career.

“Kenyon Martin had a special career in college and the NBA, but what is equally impressive is his commitment to philanthropy through his foundation and the numerous charities he supports,” said Jesse Smith, director of operations at the Sanford Sports Complex. “We are excited to welcome this group of outstanding student-athletes and their families to the Sanford Pentagon to hear Kenyon speak about his life on and off the court.”

“KELOLAND Media Group is excited to welcome former NBA No. 1 overall pick Kenyon Martin to the Sanford Pentagon/KELOLAND Media Group All-Star weekend,” said Travis Fossing, KELOLAND sports director. “A former national college player of the year, Martin spent 15 seasons in the NBA and has experienced his share of personal triumphs throughout his life, which should make for a terrific message at the All-Star banquet.

“We’re looking forward to an amazing evening with Kenyon Martin.”
