BISMARCK, N.D., Aug. 18, 2021 —The 25th annual Sanford Health Foundation Great American Bike Race, scheduled for August 28, will transition to a virtual event due to an increase of COVID-19 cases across North Dakota.
“The safety and well-being of our GABR families, volunteers and riders is our highest priority. For that reason, we are replacing the in-person event with a virtual celebration,” said Sara Haugen, executive director of the Sanford Health Foundation. “To celebrate, we encourage our past and current participants to share stories and photos on the Great American Bike Race GABR Community Facebook page as we take a look back at 25 years of supporting our families across the region.”
Plans are in the works to unite the public and GABR families online. For more information, to register a team or to donate, visit gabr.sanfordhealth.org.
The Great American Bike Race has grown to be the largest fundraiser of its kind in the United States, supporting children and young adults with cerebral palsy and other related childhood onset conditions affecting development. Since it began, GABR has raised nearly $4 million. In 2019, more than $390,000 was raised for families to help off-set costs for adaptive equipment, therapy, wheelchairs and more. This will be the first year extra funds will be shared with Sanford Children’s Therapies and serve children across central and western North Dakota.
The Sanford Bismarck region provides health care to central and western North Dakota, eastern Montana and northern South Dakota. It includes 21 clinics in Bismarck, Mandan, Minot, Dickinson and Watford City, as well as a Level II trauma center located in Bismarck.
