FARGO, N.D. – The second annual Roger Maris All-Star Week kicks off today through June 19 at various locations throughout Fargo-Moorhead.

Funds raised during Roger Maris All-Star Week will support Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center’s continued investment and expansion as a national destination for cancer research, treatment, education and training. Last October, Sanford Fargo launched the region’s first and only Bone Marrow Transplant Program. Nine autologous transplants, which means the patients donated their own cells for processing and transplant, have been successfully completed so far.

The list of events during Roger Maris All-Star week includes:

• Free youth sports camps– June 13-14 and June 16-17
• RedHawks throwback game – June 14
• Roger Maris Academy – June 15
• Roger Maris Celebrity Golf Tournament – June 16
• Roger Maris Summer Night community event at Island Park – June 16
• Roger Maris Invitational Youth Baseball Tournament – June 18-19

Celebrity athletes will once again make an appearance at numerous events throughout the week. This year’s lists of headlining athletes includes:

• Brock Lesnar, six-time World Wrestling Entertainment champion
• Kent Hrbek, two-time World Series champion
• Paul Molitor, inducted to the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame in 2004
• Chad Greenway, two-time NFL Pro Bowler

The youth sports clinics, which run June 13-14 and June 16-17, are free for children ages 5-12 and will be conducted by local, high school and collegiate coaches. Youth clinics are available for football, baseball, softball, basketball, golf and hockey.

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks will play host to the Cleburne Railroaders on Tuesday, June 14, in a throwback commemorative game. The RedHawks will wear uniforms similar to the 1967 St. Louis Cardinals, whom Maris helped lead to a World Series title. There will be an online jersey auction during the game, with all proceeds benefitting the Sanford Fargo Roger Maris Cancer Center.

The 38th annual Roger Maris Celebrity Golf Tournament tees off on June 17th, with an 18-hole tournament and a 9-hole scramble. The 18-hole tournament, presented by Happy Harry’s Bottle Shops, takes place at Rose Creek Golf Course, 1500 E. Rose Creek Parkway S., Fargo.

The 9-hole scramble, presented by Luther Family Buick GMC, takes place at Osgood Golf Course, 4400 Clubhouse Drive S., Fargo. The scramble is an opportunity to engage community members to enjoy a morning of fun in support of cancer survivors and the great care provided by the Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center.

New to Roger Maris All-Star Week is the kickoff of the Roger Maris Academy. The Maris Academy is designed to be a year-long program to help youth in our community explore various pathways to a great career. Thirty local middle school students will participate in combined educational and mentorship opportunities designed to help them discover their future careers. The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Red River Valley, in partnership with Sanford Health and the FMWF Chamber, has developed an exciting curriculum for the program. The first pitch on the Maris Academy is Wednesday, June 15, at Fargo Oak Grove High School.

The Roger Maris Summer Night, presented by Family Fare, takes place on Thursday, June 16, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Island Park. The free community event is a gathering that will connect Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center patients, survivors and staff with the greater Fargo-Moorhead community. The event includes food, celebratory live music and artistic performances featuring the Blue Water Kings, FM Ballet and FM Aerialists. There will also be a wishing tree inviting visitors to take or leave a message of hope. Free parking is available in the Island Park parking ramp.

The Roger Maris Invitational Youth Baseball Tournament takes place on June 18 and 19. The games will be played at Tharaldson Little League Complex, 1804 17th Ave. S. and Brunsdale Park, 1702 27th Ave, S. and will also feature a home run derby.
