VERMILLION, S.D. – Becker’s Hospital Review has named Sanford Vermillion’s Veronica Schmidt to the 2024 edition of its “90 critical access hospital CEOs to know.”
This list honors presidents and chief executive officers of critical access hospitals devoted to high care quality, patient safety and financial stability. These leaders bring crucial care services to their organizations, recruit top physicians, and join forces with larger hospitals and health systems that can provide additional resources. The Becker’s Hospital Review editorial team accepted nominations for this list and curated it to highlight the exceptional work of chief executive officers from critical access hospitals across the nation.
Schmidt serves as the chief executive officer at Sanford Vermillion, overseeing a critical access hospital, clinic, assisted living and long-term care facility. Under her leadership, Sanford Vermillion Medical Center earned recognition as one of the Chartis “Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals” three years running. Additionally, Schmidt played a vital role in adding 3-D mammography services to the hospital’s scope of care. She also hosts bi-monthly “coffee and conversation” sessions, providing employees opportunities to hear from her and ask questions, and encouraging teams to adopt honest, open and willing methods for communication
“It is a tremendous honor to be recognized by Becker’s as a critical access hospital CEO to know,” said Schmidt. “This recognition is more so about the work of the Sanford Vermillion team as a whole. Healthcare is a team sport, and nobody does it alone. We are fortunate to have built a team at Sanford Vermillion that understands what it takes to consistently provide high quality care for our community.”
