Sanford Sports Academy launching 7-on-7 football

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Sanford Sports Academy in Sioux Falls is adding 7-on-7 football starting this upcoming spring. Tryouts will take place in late December 2024 at the Sanford Fieldhouse with the inaugural season slated to take place March through May 2025.
There will be five different divisions: 10U, 12U, 14U, 15U, and 18U. Athletes participating must be the age of the division or younger on January 1, 2025. If they age up after January 1, they are still eligible to compete. More divisions and multiple teams per division could be added later depending on tryout numbers.
“The popularity of football in the state of South Dakota has increased significantly over the past few years,” said Kurtiss Riggs, Sanford Sports Academy football specialist. “With that growth, we have seen a desire to establish a competitive youth league outside the traditional fall football season. We’re excited to embark on this journey and provide a structured environment that allows kids to continue pursuing their football passion during the spring.”
Tryouts at the Sanford Fieldhouse will take place on Friday, December 27 and feature testing by Sanford Sports Performance at the following times:
–10U: 12:30-1:30 p.m.
–12U: 1:45-2:45 p.m.
–14U & 15U: 3:00-4:00 p.m.
–18U: 4:15-5:30 p.m.
“Adding 7-on-7 football is just another sign of the tremendous growth of the Sanford Sports Academy,” said Todd Kolb, Sanford Sports Academy director. “In Sioux Falls, we now offer basketball, baseball, football, golf, softball, and volleyball. There’s no better place for our youth to become outstanding competitors and people.”
All Sanford Sports 7-on-7 teams will be based at the Sanford Sports Complex with most workouts taking place indoors on the new FieldTurf at the Sanford Fieldhouse. Teams will compete on both a regional and national level and all players selected will receive uniforms, practice gear, and travel gear.
