SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Feb. 24, 2021 — Sanford Rock Rapids was named one of three finalists in its category for small workplaces as one of the healthiest places to work in the state of Iowa. The recognition comes from the Healthiest State Initiative, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization driven by the goal to make Iowa the healthiest state in the nation.

Sanford Rock Rapids made the finalists list through a series of workplace initiatives and community involvement. These initiatives include the staff garden to encourage healthy eating, wellness challenges and mental health education. Sanford Rock Rapids also involved the community with several activities including food giveaway distributions, community educational sessions, plus health coach services and discounts to the local wellness center.

“We want people to be more active — not only for their physical health, but also for their mental health,” said Melissa Sandbulte, a physical therapist at Sanford Rock Rapids. “It’s proven that exercise and camaraderie builds your self-esteem, you feel better and you’re a better employee because of it.”

Employees at Sanford Rock Rapids were encouraged to take part in regularly scheduled pot luck meals that featured healthful food options. Sanford Rock Rapids has provided various opportunities for employees to attend group exercise classes and cheer on their peers for their work efforts.
